1983 Chevrolet G30 (van), 1T heavy duty suspension |
190k miles, 60k average mileage: 19.1 mpg |
One-family owned since new, adult driven |
6.2l diesel, 700-R4 automatic transmission |
PS, PB, PDL, PW, CC, dual A/C, dual heat, factory AM/FM/Cassette, tilt wheel, delay wipers |
Huge dent on one side that does not affect form-fit-function, it's just major ugly -- insurance totaled in '86 because the floor has been pushed in a bit. Subsequently driven by my father and I for another 160k miles. |
Class II frame trailer hitch |
Factory shop manual |
(2) spare tires |
Factory locking differential |
Overdrive manual lockout/lockin switch |
Comes with high-end tire chains (never used) |
All tires are Goodyear Workhorse Load Range "E", for full ton carrying capacity ($175 ea); all tires are in very good condition. |
Purchased and fitted to facilitate moving antique furniture; extra interior tie-down hooks are installed, floor is carpeted. |
Reason for selling: I drive an Aerostar now, and haven't used this van 3000 miles over the past three years. |
Over $1,000 of work performed over the last year. Receipts for all work & parts for the past eight years, and more back to the day it was purchased. |
Converted to electric cooling fans and custom control system. Original mechanical fan & shroud included. |
Some spare maintenance items: fuel filters, oil filters. |
I've used Castrol Syntec exclusively for the last 90k miles. Uses about a quart in 1800 miles. |
Runs & drives great. Weighs 5,750 lbs (that's nearly 3 tons!) with a full tank (31 gals), and has 600 mile range. I've driven it to Portland and back dozens of times. |
Downers: |
The batteries were last replaced in Fall of '92, and need replacement badly. Othewise, it starts and runs perfectly. |
The windshield leaks a small amount, which runs out along the footwell; the carpet does not get wet. I have had two glass shops look into it. |
I had Les Schwab replace the idler arm & u-joints last fall (and rebalance the driveshaft twice), and the driveshaft rumbles a bit at 42 mph now. Six trips back and they haven't fixed it. I give up. |
The radiator has leaked from the top tank for several years, but not badly enough to warrant replacement. |
Aftermarket grille is getting a bit rusty. |
Someone broke off the antenna when it was parked last summer; I have merely hose-clamped on a replacement, which works but is ugly. |
Despite $400 of work last summer, the A/C continues to underwhelm. |
It could use a good scrubbing! |
Currently stored in Blaine, Wash. (1.75 hrs north of downtown
Seattle); I live in Bellingham. Can be driven anywhere.
