Performing a Serial Download on the Cisco 600 Series

**** Before you start.. Download newest CBOS flash from
http://www.iaxs.net/dsl/support/
Be sure to download correct type (DMT or CAP) for your type of DSL.
If you have a Cisco 675 you have CAP. If you have a Cisco 678 it could
be either.
Call us if you are not sure. Also make sure you have the correct Flash
for your Cisco and you have
the configure commands for the number and type of IPs you have. If you
have any questions call us before proceeding. ****
Below are basic instructions for erasing the router image and performing
a serial download on the Cisco 600 series of routers.
*Step 1: Enter RMON mode.*
To do this, follow the steps below:
1. Connect your PC to the console port of the router.
2. Set your Terminal Access Program (such as
HyperTerminal in Windows) to the following settings:
+ Baud rate: 38400 bps recommended (standard 9600
bps possible)
+ Data bits: 8
+ Parity: None
+ Stop bits: 1
+ Flow control: None
3. Power cycle the router.
4. As soon as you see the Hello! prompt, type *Ctrl-C*.
5. You are now in RMON mode.
*Step 2: Erase sectors 0-6.*
An example is below:

Erasing sector 00000001...
Sector erased
=>*es 2*
Erasing sector 00000002...
Sector erased
=>*es 3*
Erasing sector 00000003...
Sector erased

Sector erased
=>*es 5*
Erasing sector 00000005...
Sector erased
=>*es 6*
Erasing sector 00000006...
Sector erased
*Step 3: Download the router image to RAM using a Terminal Access
Program that supports Xmodem.*
An example is below:
=>*df 10008000*
Downloading

Transferred 000fda80 bytes
*Step 4: Program the Flash.*
Use the number of transferred bytes as the number of bytes
to program the Flash.
=>*pb 10008000 fee00000 fda80*
** NOTE: fda80 is an Example.. and not what you enter. **
** Enter number with preceding 0's from Transfered ### bytes on your screen. **
Programming flash address 00000000 from 10008000...
Flash programmed
*Step 5: Reboot the router.*
