Performing a command line flash on the Cisco 600 Series ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Below are basic instructions for performing a command line flash upgrade on the Cisco 600 series of routers. To do this, follow the steps below: 1. Download newest CBOS flash from http://www.iaxs.net/dsl/support/ Be sure to download correct type (DMT or CAP) for your type of DSL. If you have a Cisco 675 you have CAP. If you have a Cisco 678 it could be either. Call us if you are not sure. 2. Connect a 9-pin serial port of your PC to the console (MGMT) port of the router with Console/Management cable that came with your Cisco. 3. Set your Terminal Access Program (such as HyperTerminal in Windows) to the following settings: + Baud rate: 38400 bps recommended (standard 9600 bps possible) + Data bits: 8 + Parity: None + Stop bits: 1 + Flow control: None 4. Press Enter a few times. 5. Enter password for router at prompt (may be just hit Enter). 6. Type "en" at "CBOS>" prompt and hit Enter to enter Enable mode. 7. Enter password for Enable mode at prompt (may be just hit Enter). 8. You should now have "CBOS#" prompt. If not, try to enter Enable mode again. 9. Type "set download code" then press Enter. 10. In Hyper Terminal click the "Transfer Menu"... + Slect "Send file". + Change protocol to "Xmodem" (NOT Xmodem-1k). + Click "Browse". + Browse to the file you downloaded from above and double click it. + Click the "Send" button. + A window should appear showing data transfer. If.. it does not wait for the message "Download failed" will appear when the transfer times out, the router will reboot automaticly, and you will need to start over from the beginning. + Apon sucessful flash the router will reboot automaticly. 11. Wait for the "Press any key to continue" prompt. The flash is complete. Close Hyper Terminal.
